Tough loss on a great night for New Richmond

Thank you to all the veterans and current military that attended tonights game. Great appreciation was shown to these great people by all the fans in the gym. Standing ovation for the entire introduction. Thanks to Mr. Shepherd and Mr. Foote for helping the boys program get this together. The Lions were up for most the game, and the last few minutes a few key plays changed the outcome of the game and the Lions ended up on the losing side 49-46. Ernst leads all scorers with 22 points. The Lions travel to Ripley Saturday night to get back on their feet.

Tough Loss for Lady Lions

The Lady Lions took a tough loss at home last night to division opponent Amelia, final score 40-30. In a game that stayed close throughout, the NR girls failed to defend the perimeter allowing 6 made threes by Amelia. Offensively, the lions failed to get production outside of Tina Lawrence and Josie Buckingham who scored 14 and 10 respectively. Next vs Norwood at home Thursday 12/13.

The Wrestling Lions go 1-1 at Ross.

When the schedule came out we could point to 12/05 as an early test for the young Lions. The Lions traveled to Ross High School last night for a tri-match against Ross and Blanchester. Currently Ross is ranked #1 in the city followed by NR #2 and Blan #3. We knew going in we had to pull off some big upsets to beat Ross.

The Lions faced off against Blanchester to start the evening. The score went back and forth with some great matches. The rising star of the night was freshman Shawn Elam. In the final match Shawn dominated his opponent to get his first pin as a varsity wrestler! Final score NR 39 Blan 27. This was a huge win over an SBAAC opponent.

Then came the Ross Rams, angered over an upset win by the Lions last year. Coach Dunn had his men ready and a rowdy crowd only fueled the fire more. The Lions wrestled well at times but a few mistakes cost them some key matches. Seniors Kevin Reid and James White were the bright spots for the Lions. Final score was NR 12 Ross 66.

The Lions have no time to rest, the next match is Friday 12/07 at Glen Este during school hours. I look for the Lions to bounce back with a big performance tomorrow. WE ARE NR!!

Lions Basketball

The New Richmond Boys Basketball team beat Deer Park last Friday by a score of 63-62 in overtime. Down 1 with 3 seconds left, Austin wells sank two clutch free throws to pull out the win. Wells finished the game with 15 points. Junior Josh Heiden had a career high 20 points and 6 rebounds. Junior John Ernst had 13 points, Sophomore CJ Grogan had a career high 9 rebounds. The Lions open up league play Friday night against Goshen at home. We are celebrating military night prior to the game, and will be honoring those that serve or have served in the military.

The New Richmond Lions Wrestling team repeats as Roger Bacon team champions!!

Somebody forgot to tell the Lions Wrestling team they graduated 12 seniors last year and should be "rebuilding" this year. Most of the team is getting their first shot at the varsity lineup and have decided to make the most of their opportunity. They are going to "reload" the varsity lineup and ignore terms like "rebuild". They are looking to pave their own way to four straight league and sectional titles!!

The Lions started Saturday morning with a victory over Talawanda 45-28. The next round the Lions pounded sectional foe Wyoming 63-12 losing only two matches. The final preliminary round proved to be no match for the Lions, Lions 63 Oak Hills 18.

The medal round started in the afternoon. First up for the Lions was the Cooper Jaguars from Kentucky. You will need to travel a little farther than Ky. to find a team to match these Lions, Lions 39 Cooper 34. The gold medal match faced the Lions against the #2 ranked team in the city, Reading Blue Devils. The finals started a little slow for the Lions, dropping the first three matches, 18-0 Reading. Then AJ Rostetter and Tristan Williams stopped the losing streak, 18-10 Reading. The Blue Devils won the next two out of three matches, 27-16 Reading. The Lions won the next three matches, 34-27 Lions with two matches to go! Lance Houser won the final match of the day to seal the victory for the Lions, 37-30 Lions win Lions win!!

The Lions finished the day 5-0 and team champions. They were lead by seniors Kevin Reid and Lance Houser, both going 5-0. Seniors Nathan Dixon, Jake Preston, Autumn Clark and James White finished 4-1 on the day. Juniors AJ Rostetter and Tristan Williams contributed with three wins. Jared Bray finished the day with three wins also. Bobby Bingham and Shawn Elam got their first varsity wins this weekend. Freshman Josh Bauscher saw his first varsity action at a very tough weight class and finished the day 3-2, keep your eye on this up and coming freshman!

The Lions battle the #1 ranked Ross Rams Wednesday evening at Ross. The action starts at 6pm. Load up the car and come watch these Lions fight for another city title. The #4 ranked Blanchester Wildcats will be in action against the Lions Wednesaday evening also.

WE ARE NR!!
