NR Lady Lions Basketball @ CNE

The varsity girls basketball team took another tough loss at CNE last night, 34-31. It was a night when the ball just didn't bounce the way of the lions. The girls played solid defense all night holding CNE to just 11 field goals on 23% shooting. The struggles came on the other side of the ball; offensively the girls struggled to convert easy baskets and were outscored from the free-throw line. Reno Frayne led the way scoring 14 points and collecting 10 rebounds. The loss moves NR into a 2nd place tie in the division with CNE and a game behind Western Brown. Next @ Amelia Saturday, 1-29-11.

Lions Basketball Vs McNick

The New Richmond Boys Basketball program had a tough night Tuesday playing against McNicholas High School. After taking two tough losses in the Freshman and JV battles, the Varsity came out with a determined state of mind. They were not going to back down to the pressure from a GCL school. Led by Senior Steven Binder, in his return from the IR, the Lions broke McNick's press and tough man to man defense and were trailing 34-32 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Rockets chose to switch to a zone defense, and the shots against that zone did not fall for the Lions. McNick used a big run at the end of the game to pull away for the win. The varsity team has been scrapping for the last few games and the season turnaround is just around the corner.

Lady Lions Lose in 2OT

The Lady Lions Girls Basketball team travelled to Williamsburg last night in a game that became one of the most exciting yet disappointing games of the season. After a slow first half with significant foul trouble the girls were down 10 at half-time only to storm back in a 14-3 3rd quarter. Taking a 1 point lead into the 4th quarter the lions were slowed again by foul trouble with leading-scorer Reno Frayne fouling out with 4+ minutes left to play. Stepping up to lead the team was Freshman Josie Buckingham who ended the game with 24 points and 20 rebounds, both career highs. With another key player fouling out when Sarah Shoemaker committing her 5 foul with 2 minutes remaining the lady lions played the rest of regulation and both overtimes with key players on the bench. In the overtimes, missed free throws and key turnovers ultimately led to the loss, 44-40. Next @ CNE Thursday 1/27.

The JV wrestling Lions finish third with a depleted lineup.

The JV wrestled Saturday at the reserve Hammer & Anvil. The varsity tournament pulled four of our top JV wrestlers into the varsity tournament, this left the JV lineup a little short but still determined to finish strong! You know what place we would have finished with a full lineup! Autumn Clark led the way with a second place finish, congrats LPH! Jay Troy and Will Lytle battled to a third place finish. Nathan Rostetter, Mickey McCollum and Aaron Pollard finished fourth. This was the final tournament for the JV Lions, congratulations on a strong finish. Can't wait to see you on the varsity mat next year! WE ARE NR!

The Lions pound away at the Hammer & Anvil!

The varsity wrestling Lions finished seventh out of sixteen teams Saturday. Being invited to the Hammer & Anvil is tough enough, finishing top ten is a huge accomplishment for the program. They started the day swinging a big Hammer, second place after round two. Ryan Zawacki lead the way for the Lions beating the #1 seed from Michigan on his way to a strong second place finish! Brody Hooks only lost one match all day and finished third. Cody Gabelman Wrestled well finishing fourth. A pair of sophomores finished fifth, Kevin Reid and JR Forsee. Senior Sam Anderson gutted out a sixth place finish after coming back from illness. Jordan Hooks and Austin Skaggs made the finals finishing seventh. Brandon Mues, Clay Loadman and Cory English finished up with an eighth place finish. The Lions placed 11 out of 14 wrestlers. The Lions outpaced all SBAAC schools by almost 100 points, the league meet is only three weeks away! The hard work is paying off for the Lions with improvement every week. WE ARE NR!
