Lions and Tigers and Aviators?? Oh My!!

It was not a lame version of the Wizard of Oz, it was a heart pounding, teeth grinding, grueling wrestling meet @ Milford High School! The Varsity Wrestling Lions gutted out a second place finish behind the Loveland Tigers and just ahead of the Sycamore Aviators. The Lions finished the first day in fourth place out of sixteen teams. Saturday morning went very well for the Lions though, five wrestlers would be in the finals for first. Overall the Lions placed ten in the top six.

Leading the way for the Lions was Brody Hooks, Austin Skaggs, Cody Gabelman and JR Forsee, all finishing first! Cody Gabelman received votes but didn't quite win the Most Valuable Wrestler award, Cody pinned all his opponents and only one of them made it to the second period, congrats Cody!! Freshmen Kyle Weeks was the surprise of the tournament. Kyle was unseeded and upset three wrestlers on his way to a second place finish, that victory grin may never come off his face!!! Ryan Zawacki, James White and Kevin Reid finished fourth Ryle Beckerich and Nathan Dixon finished sixth.

Next up for the Lions is Senior night/Alumni night Thursday, 02/02 @ New Richmond High School. Come celebrate with our seniors and alumni. Get the word out that we want all NRHS wrestling alumni and coaches! WE ARE NR!!!

Close Division Win for Lady Lions

The Lady Lions Girls Basketball Team defeated division rival Amelia at home last night by a score of 34-33. Amelia's tough zone defense collapsed on the inside and was effective in stopping the inside game throughout much of the game, but left shooters open on the outside. Sarah Shoemaker connected on 3 treys on her way to a game-high 13 points while Courtney Grogan hit 2 from long range to stretch the defense. Josie Buckingham scored 6 points but had 6 big blocks and 11 rebounds shutting down the inside for Amelia. Bailey Workman provided an offensive spark in the 4th quarter scoring all 6 of her points during the frame. The win improves their record to 6-1 in the SBAAC American and 12-3 overall. The team travels to Bethel-Tate for another tough division game Saturday 1-28.
