Boys Basketball vs Ripley 12/2/11

The Lions varsity basketball team lost a tough battle against Ripley high school 57-55 on Friday night. The lions played from behind most of the night, but continued to battle and made numerous runs to even the score several times. However, the great effort fell short in the last few minutes. Leading the way for the Lions were sophomore John Ernst with 14 points and 13 rebounds; Senior Chris Turner with 9 points and 7 rebounds; Junior Evan McKinley 8 points; and Junior Austen Craig with 7 points. The lions will attempt to rebound from the loss by playing host to Felicity Franklin Tuesday night @ 7:30.
The JV Boys won their game against Ripley by a score of 59-45. Leading the way for the Lions were Sophomore Josh Heiden 15 points, Caleb Hayward 11 points, Blake Thompson and Dylan Adams with 10 points.
The Freshman boys basketball team lost their season opener to Ripley on Friday night. Jake Craig led the frosh with 16 points. Chris Mazzaro and Alex Sharp each had 8 points.

Lady Lions Beat CNE

The Lady Lions Varsity Girls Basketball Team got a big league win on the road vs. CNE last night 45-32. Sophomore Bailey Workman led the team in scoring with 14 points while Sarah Shoemaker took the game over defensively with 9 steals to go with her 12 points. Josie Buckingham accumulated 12 points and 9 rebounds in limited minutes. It was a good tough win over a relentless division opponent on the road. Lady Lions are next vs. Felicity at home Monday, Dec. 5.

Boys basketball game Friday night

The boys basketball team opens up their season Friday night at 7:30 against visiting Ripley. The game is a potential game of the week on the blitz so please cast your vote before Thursday night at midnight. Go Lions!

Lady Lions Victorious in Home Opener

The NR Lady Lions Basketball team opened their season in winning fashion on their home court last night vs Mariemont 49-23. The girls were led by a dominating performance by Josie Buckingham who led all scorers with 23 points and also had 14 rebounds and 8 blocks. Seniors Sarah Shoemaker and Mikaela Rupp added 8 points each providing clutch scoring from the perimeter. The girls' stingy team defense was key holding the visiting team to 8 total field goals and 3 points in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Lions open SBAAC play on Thursday @ CNE at 730.

Hall of Fame Nominations

The nominations for the 2012 Hall of Fame are due December 7th. Please have them returned to me no later than the end of school on the 7th. The Hall of Fame Banquet will be 6:00pm on January 21st following the boys varsity game vs Williamsburg. Listed is the events for the day.

Lions go undefeated in preview.

Cody Gabelman, Tyler Loyd and JR Forsee go undefeated at Graham High School wrestling preview Saturday night. Cody dominated his opponent with an impressive 8-2 victory. Tyler "escaped" with a 1-0 victory, scoring the only point in the second period. JR controlled the action from start to finish with a 3-0 win.

Next up for the Varsity Wrestling Lions is the Roger Bacon Duals Saturday, December 3 @ 10am. The Lions are lead by ten seniors and look to three-peat as SBAAC League and Sectional Champs! The road starts Saturday and ends in Columbus at the state meet in March!

The Junior Varsity Wrestling Lions begin the season Saturday also. They will travel to Wilmington, action starts at 10am. Coach Minor expects to have a strong team and continue the winning tradition at New Richmond! WE ARE NR!
