Friday Night Wrestling Results From MIT

Austin Skaggs, Cody Gabelman, Andrew Nealan and Brian Gelter are in the Semi-finals at the Milford Invitational Tournament. Sam Anderson, Chris Klinker, Ryan Zawacki, Clay Loadman, Kevin Reid, Ryle Beckerich and JR Forsee are still battling in the consolation quarterfinals.

The team is in 5th place of 20.

BP Express buys team banners for high school



New Richmond High School principal Diane Spinnati (left) is pictured with River City Express PB owners John and Jennifer Jones under the SBAAC team banners on display at the high school gym. John and Jennifer donated $3000 to the high school for the purchase of team banners in addition to their sponsorship of the school's internet radio site www.newrichmond.localsportsradio.com.

"We're from New Richmond and want to give something back to the community," said John Jones. "We were already a sponsor of the school's radio broadcasts so when athletic director Doug Foote approached us about the need for the team banners we were happy to help."

In addition to fuel products, River City Express PB offers a complete line of convenience needs along with take-out meals including Lil' Chet's Chicken.

Girls Basketball @ Bethel

Thursday, Jan 28 @ Bethel: The Lady Lions Basketball Team lost to Behel last night by a score of 35-27. The girls played solid defense for 4 quarters but could not generate offense. The girls were also slowed by poor free throw shooting 6/25 (24%). The zone defense applied by Bethel was effective in stopping our inside game, and we had no answer from the outside. The Lady Lions were led by Mikaela Rupp who scored 9. Next at home vs CNE Sat, Jan 30.

GREAT NIGHT OF SWIMMING -- 2 RELAY RECORDS BROKE

The boys' swim team broke the school record in the 200 yd. Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:40.05. The relay team consisted of Robbie Workman, Alex Ariapad, Mark Miller and Alex Lewis. The same boys swam the 400 yd. Freestyle Relay and broke a record that has been on the board since 1990. Robbie, Alex, Mark and Alex swam the 400 yd. Free Relay in a time of 3:44.48. Great job men.

The boys' swim team beat Glen Este by a score of 66-24. 1st place finishers were: Blake Beckett, Mark Miller, Alex Lewis, Anthony Goodrich, Robbie Workman, Alex Ariapad, and Grant Gilman. A good job by all the boys on the team.

The girls swim team lost to Glen Este by a score of 31-60. 1st place finishers were: Kara Burns and Micha Brondhaver. Good job by all the girls on the team.

The swim team has their League meet on Sat. Feb. 6 at Cincinnati Country Day at 11:00 a.m. Everyone welcome to come see some good swimming.

Joe and I would like to thank all of our Seniors for a great season and the parents for being so supportive of our program. We appreciate everything you do for us and for our swimmers. We like to thank the administration Mr. Foote and Ms. Spinnati for all of their support during the season.

SWIMMERS BEAT WESTERN BROWN

The girls' swim team beat Western Brown by a score of 52-18 last night. The first place swimmers were: Micha Brondhaver, Gabby Benton, Kara Burns, Becky Lemar, Vicky Booker, and Amanda Schmidt. Good job ladies.

The boys' swim team beat Western Brown by a score of 66-21 last night. The first place finishers were: Blake Beckett, Jacob Singleton, Grant Gilman, Colt Reese, Mark Miller, Robbie Workman and Alex Ariapad. Joe Shepherd did a good job of finishing in 2nd place beating his opponent by 1.70 hundreds of a second.
Good job men.

Lions Finish 8th

The wrestling team competed at Western Brown this past weekend. The team finished 8th.

The placers were: Andrew Nealan 3rd, Cody Gabelman and Brian Gelter 4th, J.R. Forsee 6th, Robbie Lemar and Austin Skaggs 7th, Sam Anderson and Kevin Reid 8th.

The Wrestling team will be at the MIT in Milford on Friday and Saturday.

Lady Lions Basketball vs Goshen

Tuesday, Jan 26 home vs Goshen: The Lady Lions basketball team fell to Goshen last night by a score of 34-26. The girls got off to their second consecutive slow start which got them down double digits in the first half. Lack of offensive execution and turnovers at key moments spoiled the comeback attempt. The lions were led by Reno Frayne and Lindsey Blankenship who scored 9 points each. Next @Bethel Thursday, Jan 28.

HIGH SCHOOL SWIM TEAM SWIMMING FAST

Since the swim classic the swim team has been very busy. The boys' swim team has won 3 meets and lost a close meet to Summit Country Day. The scores were as follows: NR 46 -Summit 48, NR 57 - Greenfield 37, NR 64 - Seven Hills 30, and NR 51 - Little Miami 41. 1st place finishers were: Mark Miller, Robbie Workman, Alex Ariapad, Alex Lewis, Blake Beckett, Grant Gilman, and Jacob Singleton.

The girls swim team has lost 3 meets and won one against Little Miami last night. The scores were as follows: NR 30 - Summit 53, NR 32 - Greenfield 61, NR 38 - Seven Hills 55, and
NR 43 - Little Miami 32. The first place finishers were: Kara Burns, Gabby Benton, Khyla Parsons, Amanda Schmidt, Vicky Booker, and Samantha Hamilton.

All the swimmers are improving their times and having some great swims. We swim Western Brown on Wed. Jan. 27 and our final dual meet of the season and senior recognition night will be on Thurs. Jan. 28th. Everyone is welcome to come and see some good swimming.

ALEX LEWIS DOES A GREAT JOB AT SWIM CLASSIC

Alex competed at the Southwest Ohio Swim Classic on Jan. 16 and 17. There were over 3000 swimmers both Division 1 and Division 2 at 7 different sites attempting to be one of the 16 swimmers who made it back for the finals in the evening of each days competition. Alex came in first place at Milford which placed him 10th in the 50 yd. freestyle and 2nd in the 100 yd. butterfly which placed him 11th overall to make it in the finals on Saturday night. He finished as the 9th fastest swimmer in consolation for the 50 yd. freestyle and 10th place at finals for the 100 yd. butterfly.

On Sunday, Alex competed in the 100 yd. freestyle and finished in 2nd place at Milford HS. This placed him 16th in the consolation round on Sunday evening. He finished in 12th place at the end of the evening.

There were 6 other New Richmond Swimmers who went to the Swim Classic this year. They did a great job and had some of their best times. The following swimmers competed: Robbie Workman, Alex Ariapad, Grant Gilman, Jacob Singleton, Mark Miller and Kara Burns.

Lady Lions Comeback Falls Short @ East Clinton

Saturday, Jan 23 @ East Clinton: After facing a double-digit deficit at halftime, the Lady Lions rallied in the second half Saturday vs East Clinton only to fall short in the last minute of the game. The girls' tough team defense allowed only 4 field goals on 23 attempts in the second half, shutting down the hot shooters from EC. Lindsey Blankenship led the 4th quarter charge scoring 8 of her game-high 14 in the period, Blankenship also added 9 rebounds. The team was also boosted by improved play at the guard position from Sarah Shoemaker and Mikaela Rupp who scored 8 and 6 respectively. Next at home vs Goshen Tuesday, Jan 26.
