The Lions takedown Indians and stop a Hurricane!

FEMA and Colonel Custer should have taken notes on how to deal with Hurricanes and Indians from the Varsity Lions wrestling team! The Lions continued their winning ways last night @Hillsboro with victories over Wilmington and Hillsboro. The night started with a 40-31 victory over Wilmington. James White, Kevin Reid, JR Forsee, Jordan Hooks, Brody Hooks, Austin Skaggs, Cody Gabelman and Sam Anderson all recorded wins.
Next up was the Hillsboro Indians for the Lions. Hillsboro kept it close for a short time and then the Lions proved to be too much, winning 39-22. Recording wins was Brody Hooks, Austin Skaggs, Cody Gabelman, Ryan Zawacki, James White, Kevin Reid, Nathan Dixon and JR Forsee. This was the last tune-up before the SBAAC league meet next Saturday @ Amelia.
The JV Wrestling Lions looked good last night also with wins over both teams. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nathan Rostetter, he broke his ankle last night competing against Hillsboro. Nathan had been improving every week this season and was a key factor for the JV team. Get better Nathan! WE ARE NR!!

Yet Another Heartbreaking Loss for Lady Lions

The Lady Lions girls basketball team lost another tough close game last night vs Bethel-Tate. After trailing by double figures the lady lions fought back to take a 5 point lead in the last 2 minutes before losing by 1, 46-45. The lady lions had no answer defensively for BT's Tess Jenike who scored 36 of the team's 46 points. Reno Frayne led the way for NR scoring 21 points and collecting 15 rebounds, Josie Buckingham added 15 points and 14 rebounds. The loss puts NR two games behind Western Brown in the SBAAC-American. Next vs Western Brown Tuesday 2/8.

The Lions prove to be too much for the Bulldogs!

The Varsity Wrestling Lions looked tough in a 65-7 win over Batavia. Senior Sam Anderson started the night with a solid win. Sam is one of our seniors who will be missed next year. Our other senior is James Martin who was injured and could not compete tonight but we know he would have come through with a win if he was able. Guys we will miss you next year and remember you will always be a part of the Lions Wrestling family!

Another Tough Loss for Lady Lions

For the 3rd time in 4 games the Lady Lions Girls basketball team let a close game slip away, this time at home vs Reading, final score 39-38. Taking a 9 point lead into the 4th quarter the girls allowed 19 points in the following period including a 3 pointer with 1 second left to give Reading its only lead. Missed lay-ups and missed free throws in the final period allowed Reading to hang around and get back in the game. The loss was hugely disappointing especially after the two close losses last week. The girls will need to regroup to face 3 division opponents in their final three games to compete for a division title. Next at home vs Bethel Thursday, 2/3.

The Lions finish sixth out of nineteen at the Milford Invitaional Tournament.

Friday started a little slow for the wrestling Lions. After picking up a couple of big wins in the semi-finals on Saturday they finished strong! The Lions were led by sophomore JR Forsee with a first place finish. Brody Hooks made the finals also but came up a little short in his quest for a championship finishing a respectable second. Austin Skaggs and Cody Gabelman wrestled well all weekend and finished fourth. Senior Sam Anderson finished fifth and Kevin Reid finished Saturday night with a sixth place finish. The Lions continue to wrestle the top competition in the city and perform well. The Lions have there only home meet of the year Wednesday evening, taking on a much improved Batavia team, so come out and support the Wrestling Lions! WE ARE NR!!

NR Girls Get Back on Track vs Amelia

The New Richmond Lady Lions girls basketball team bounced back nicely Saturday @ Amelia following two tough losses winning 46-35. Tenacious man-to-man defense held the high-scoring Amelia guards in check; NR guards Mikaela Rupp and Brandi Riley teamed up to lock down Amelia's top scorer. Offensively, the combination of Josie Buckingham and Reno Frayne were too much for the undersized Amelia posts players to handle. Buckingham finished with 16 pts, 16 rebounds, and 6 blocks while Frayne added 13 points and 10 rebs. Sarah Shoemaker and Courtney Grogan provided solid ball handling the entire game to counter Amelia's press. The win improves the lady lions to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in division play. Next vs Reading at home Monday 2/1.
