Tournament Win for Lady Lions

The Varsity Lady Lions Basketball team won its first-round sectional tournament game over Wyoming today, 50-35. After a slow start through two and a half quarters, NR took off mid-way through the 3rd led by Josie Buckingham who finished with a triple-double: 25 pts, 18 rebs, 10 blk. Freshman point guard Maren Hance chipped in 12 points while Tina Lawrence dished 6 assists to go along with her 5 points. It was a good win that earned them the chance to take on Bethel-Tate on Thursday in the second round at 730.

Swimmers finish strong in district meet

New Richmond High School swimmers finished strong in the Ohio High School Athletic Association district swim meet at Miami University Feb. 16 including school record performances by the girls 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

The 200 free relay consisting of Jessica Nazareth, Ashlee Lewis, Megan Woolum and Kara Burns finished in 16th place and set a school reocrd with a time of 1:51.74 and the 400 yd. free relay team consisting of Paige Anderson, Alicia Bailey, Jessica Nazareth and Megan Woolum who finished in 17th place with a time of 4:11.66. All the girls in each relay swam their personal best times.

The 200 medley relay consisting of Claire Burns (backstroke), Kara Burns (breaststroke), Ann Bishop (butterfly), and Megan Woolum (freestyle) finished in 22nd place with a personal best time of 2:08.93. They missed breaking a school record by .76 of a second.

Kara Burns finished in 17th place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:48.10.

"Kara is a Senior and she was successful in going to Districts all 4 years," noted NRHS swim coach Judy Middeler. "In her career, she has managed to break three school records and has been a great catalysts in getting other girls to take swimming serious and to work hard enough to get to Districts."

The NRHS boys swim team also recorded strong finishes in the district meet with Tyler David finishing in 10th place in the 500 freestyle with his personal best time of 4:59.35. He placed 26 overall in the state with that time. Tyler finished in 11th place in the 200 freestyle with his best time of 1:51.33.

The boys 200 medley relay consisting of Tyler David (backstroke), Henry Bezold (breastsroke), Cole Bird (butterfly), and Derek Gelter (freestyle) finished in 22nd place with a personal best time of 1:56.43. All 4 boys had their best split times for the season.

The 200 free relay consisting of Nick Flake, Derek Gelter, Cole Bird and Tyler David finished in 21st place with a time of 1:42.00. All 4 boys had their best split times for the season.

Lady Lions Win on Senior Night

The NR Varsity Girls Basketball Team got a big win on senior night last night defeating Taylor 57-26. Seniors Riley Deweese and Cassidy Martin scored 4 points each in the victory. Josie Buckingham scored a game-high 31 points including her 1000th career point. Tina Lawrence contributed 6 assists and Bailey Workman added 4 more to help Buckingham reach the milestone, her 1000th point was assisted by Cassidy Martin. It was truly a great team effort. This game concludes the regular season with the NR girls finishing 15-7. Thanks to all who have supported the Lady Lions this season and we hope to see you at Withrow High School this Saturday at 4:30 when the lions take on Wyoming in the first round of the sectional tournament.

NR Lions v Western Brown (Senior Night)

The varsity boys basketball team beat western brown high school Friday night by a score of 63-48. Leading the way for the lions were josh Heiden with 19 points and 4 assists, John Ernst with 10 points and 6 rebounds, CJ Grogan with 9 points. Senior Austin wells had 7 points and 5 assists, senior chad Nort had 8 rebounds, senior sam Leffler took 2 charges, and senior Evan McKinley hit a big three early in the game. Congratulations to our four seniors for a great basketball career at New Richmond. The jv team beat western brown 52-37. John Buckingham had 14 points And Daman Abner had 12 points. The freshman boys basketball team beat western brown 40-39 Friday night. Down 3 with 4 seconds left, Joel Erdman through a long pass down the floor to Hunter Lansaw who found an open Paul Jaehnen at half court. Jaehnen heaved it to the basket while getting found and the ball found nothing but the net. Jaehnen hit the free throw with time expired to seal the win. The lions play at Cincinnati Country Day on Tuesday.

SUPER SWIMS AT SECTIONALS

The boys swim team had great swims at the Sectional swim meet at Mason High School on Friday, Feb.8, 2013.  Tyler David is 8th in the 500 yd. Free at Districts next week and he finished 11th in the 200 yd. Free.  He also was a part of the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 yd. Freestyle Relay and will be competing in all 4 events on Friday, Feb. 15 at Miami University at 10:45 a.m. Tyler had is best times with 29.52 for the 50 backstroke a 1:53.18 in the 200 yd. Free, a 5:04.01 in the 500 yd. Free and a 23.83 in the 200 yd. Free Relay. GREAT JOB TYLER.  The 200 yd. Medley Relay consisting of Tyler David - Backstroke, Henry Bezold-Breaststroke, Cole Bird-Butterfly and Derek Gelter - Freestyle finished with a time of 1:59.16 and placed 24th for Districts next weekend..  The 200 yd. Free Relay consisting of Nick Flake, Derek Gelter, Cole Bird, and Tyler David finished with a time of 1:42.53 and placed 23rd for Districts next weekend.  Great job to all the swimmers at Sectional.  Good luck to all the District Qualifiers next weekend.

The girls swim team had super swims at the Sectional swim meet at Mason High School on Sat., Feb 9, 2013.  KARA BURNS set a new SCHOOL RECORD and PERSONAL RECORD  in the 100 yd. Breaststroke with a time of 1:16.05 and placed 10th at Sectional. She also finished in 13th place for Districts in the 500 yd. Free with a time of 5:42.60.  She is a member of the 200 yd. Medley Relay and the 200 yd. Free Relay and will compete in those 3 events at Districts next weekend.  SUPER JOB KARA.  The 200 yd. Medley Relay consisting of Claire Burns-Backstroke, Kara Burns-Breaststroke, Ann Bishop-Butterfly, and Megan Woolum-Freestyle finished with a time of 2:12.88 and placed 26th at Districts.  The 200yd. Free Relay consisting of JESSICA NAZARETH, ASHLEE LEWIS, MEGAN WOOLUM, AND KARA BURNS set a new SCHOOL RECORD with a time of 1:53.85 and placed 19th at Districts.  The 400 yd. Free Relay consisting of Paige Anderson, Alicia Bailey, Jessica Nazareth, and Megan Woolum finished with a time of 4:15.27 and placed 16th at Districts next weekend.  GREAT JOB LADIES.  Great job to all the swimmers at Sectional.  Good luck to all the District Qualifiers next weekend at Miami University.
