The Lions Attack the First Day at State.


Austin Skaggs dominates his first opponent at state. Austin opens the tournament with an impressive win. Off the whistle he had the first takedown and nearfall. He continued to control his opponent over the next two periods and won the match 17-9 over a strong opponent. Austin wrestles again Friday morning at 10:40.

Senior Andrew Nealan left his heart on the mat and lost two very close matches. He lost his first round match 14-11 and lost his second round match 3-2. This is Andrew's third trip to the state tournament. Stay tuned for more to come about Andrew's career.

The Lions Pounce on Districts and Finish with "2 Tickets to Paradise".

If you know a wrestler or are a friend of a wrestler or ever been in the same room with a wrestler you know that a trip to the state tournament in Columbus is "Paradise". It is the toughest weekend of a wrestlers career but then again that what makes wrestlers unique. They thrive when the conditions are the worst.
Austin Skaggs and Andrew Nealan earned a trip to the state tournament next Thursday. Sophmore Austin Skaggs earned his first trip to Columbus by finishing third at the districts this weekend. Senior Andrew Nealan is back for his third trip, let's hope the third time is a charm! Andrew placed sixth last year and will be looking to better his performance this year! Andrew will also be looking for the New Richmond wrestling career wins record, he is only two away!
The Lions finished twelfth as a team. Brody Hooks, Cody Gableman, Sam Anderson, Kevin Reid, Lance Houser and JR Forsee all contributed to the strong finish. Senior Brian Gelter had a strong tournament that finished with a tough loss. Brian finishes his career with over 100 wins, congratulations Brian! Brian will be headed to Tiffin University next year and plans on wrestling collegiately.
The state tournament starts Thursday at 2pm. Use your vacation days, call in sick or take a personal day, whatever it takes to be there but don't miss Austin and Andrew! If you can't make it make sure you congratulate these young men on a HUGE accomplishment and always remember WE ARE NR!
