Lady Lions defeat Bethel 3-1

Kallie Long went the distance and struck out 6 as the Lady Lions opened the softball season with a 3-1 win over Bethel Thursday.

The Lady Lions will host defending SBAAC champion Western Brown on Monday.

Lions defeat Betherl 21-9

Austin Warden pitched three scoreless innings for his second win of the season as the Lions batted around three times for a 21-9 win over Bethel in their SBAAC opener Thursday.

New Richmond sent 16 batters to the plate in the third innings and scored 11 times to give Warden a 15-0 lead. The Lions scored six more times in the bottom of the fourth.

Michael Skaggs went 3-for-4 to lead the Lions, who recored a season high 15 hits. Dylan Senters, Will Shoemaker and Zach Ritter each comtributed two hits to the total.

The Lions play their fourth day in a row Friday night when they play at Reading in a 7 p.m. game at Reading's Koenig Park.

Lions defeat Taylor 9-3

The Lions exploded for 8 runs in the third inning as Andy Case, Zach Ritter and Justin Underwood split the pitching duties in a 9-3 win over Taylor.

Danny Scholz and Ritter got the rally going with back-to-back doubles followed by singles by Kevin Hamilton and Michael Skaggs as New Richmond wiped out a 3-0 deficit, sending 13 batters to the plate before the inning was over. Ritter and Skaggs each had two hits to lead New Richmond.

Lions defeat Western Hills 13-1

Steven Binder had two hits including a 2-run home run and Kevin Hamilton, Michael Skaggs, Jeff Case and Will Shoemaker each had two hits as the Lions won their season opener 13-1 Tuesday at Western Hills.

Binder's home run came in the first inning and proved to be all the offense the Lions needed as starter Austin Warden, Binder and Ryan Waters limited the Mustangs to only one hit.

The Lions opener their home season Wednesday against Taylor in a 4:30 p.m. start and will host Bethel at 4:30 on Thursday in their Southern Buckeye opener. New Richmond closes out the opening week of the season at Reading on Friday.

The New Richmond JV baseball team defeated Western Hills 22-6.
