Busy Hall of Fame Weekend for the Boys Basketball Program

On Friday night the Varsity boys basketball team traveled north through sleet and snow to face league opponent Goshen. It was cold outside, but the Lions were red-hot on the hardwood. The Lions led early 15-6 but fell behind at half time 24-23. The lions battled back in the second half and were able to hold on the victory by a score of 60-54. Sophomore John Ernst led the Lions with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Senior Jake Gundler had 15 points and 3 assists. Junior Austin Wells had a career high of 11 points. Wells also nailed a crucial 3 pointer and added another 3 point play the old fashioned way late in the game to help pull away from Goshen.

On Saturday night, the Lions pulled off a victory against visiting Williamsburg high school by a score of 61-51 in overtime. The Lions fought through some adversity and were able to battle back in the second half after being down 27-21 at halftime. The Lions pulled even with Williamsburg in the 4th quarter and were able to get to overtime where the Lions would take over the game. Right from the tip, Junior Sam Leffler went in and scored a quick basket to pull the Lions ahead for good. Leffler scored a career high of 21 points and also added 4 steals. Sophomore John Ernst had 19 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Jake Gundler and Junior Austin Wells had 7 points. Tucker Hawkins added 5 assists.

The Lions JV beat Williamsburg by a score of 50-32. Dylan Adams had 16 points and Josh Heiden had 13 points.

The Lions travel to McNicholas high school on Tuesday night.

Lady Lions Win vs CNE

The Lady Lions Varsity Girls Basketball Team defeated CNE last night at home by a score of 42-33. After an up and down 1st half the girls exploded in the 3rd quarter, shutting out CNE 12-0. Josie Buckingham led the way scoring 17 points, collecting 9 rebounds, and blocking 10 shots. Mikaela Rupp and Bailey Workman scored 10 and 7 respectively to contribute to the win. The win improves their record to 5-1 in the the SBAAC-American and 10-3 overall. Next at home vs Williamsburg Monday, Jan 23.

LIONS FOOTBALL PLAYERS ENQUIRER ALL CITY

DANNY SCHOLZ WAS NAMED TO THE CINCINNATI ENQUIRER DIVISION 2-6 1ST TEAM ALL CITY TEAM AS A LINEBACKER. NICK HILL WAS NAMED HONORABLE MENTION ALL CITY AS A RUNNING BACK. GREAT HONOR FOR TWO DESERVING PLAYERS.

Wrestling Lions roll over Amelia 67 to 9!!

The Lions traveled up 125 to challenge the Amelia Barons. The Lions wrestled like the #1 team in the city, winning 12 of the 14 matches. The JV team won 6 of 9 matches also. It's always good to dominate a league opponent weeks away from the SBAAC tournament.

Next up for the Lions is the Hammer and Anvil Tournament Saturday @ Western Brown, WE ARE NR!!

Wrestling Senior Night and Alumni night 02/02.

I need your help getting the word out. We are inviting all alumni NR wrestlers and coaches to be honored at the tri-meet between NR, Wilmington & Hillsboro 02/02. We will have a reduced admission ($3) for all alumni that sign in. We will announce all alumni and coaches at intermission. We are looking forward to a great night of wrestling and recognition for our seniors and alumni. Lady Lions lose in OT

The Lady Lions Varsity Girls Basketball lost a tough game in overtime @ Seton last night 74-72. After trailing by 15 at the half, the lady lions roared back keyed by good defense and capped off by a long 3 by Courtney Grogan to force overtime. In overtime, however, the girls could not find consistent offensive execution and could not hold on to an early overtime lead. The Lady Lions were led by Josie Buckingham who scored 33 points, collected 12 rebounds, and blocked 8 shots. Sarah Shoemaker added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Next at home vs CNE Thursday, Jan 19.

ALEX ARIAPAD MADE IT TO SWIM CLASSIC FINALS IN 50FLY

It was a great weekend of swimming for the New Richnmond swimmers. Alex Ariapad is the 4th swimmer from New Richmond to make it back to the finals in the 29 years that they have held the Swim Classic. He was successful in the 50yd. Butterfly with a time of 26.65 and improved his time Sunday night with a time of 26.57. There were 3300 swimmers competing at 8 different sites and the top 16 best times swam in the finals at Keating Natatorium. It is the largest swim meet held in the United States. Eight other New Richmond swimmers competed on Saturday and Sunday and did a great job improving their times.

Those competing were Grant Gilman, Alex Ariapad, Colt Reese, Tyler David, & Derek Gelter. They had their best times in the 200yd. Free Relay, 200yd. Medley Relay, 400yd. Medley Relay and the 400yd. Free Relay. Grant had his best time in the 100yd. Breaststroke; Alex Ariapad had his best times in the 200yd. Individual Medley, & 50yd. Fly; Colt Reese had his best times in the 100yd. Back, 100yd. Free & 50yd. Free; Tyler David had his best time in the 200yd. Free; & Derek Gelter had his best times in the 50yd. Free & the 100yd. Free.

The girls competing were Kara Burns, Ann Bishop, Jessica Nazareth & Megan Woolum. They had their best times in the 200yd. Medley Relay, 400yd. Medley Relay, 200yd. Free Relay & the 400yd. Free Relay. Kara had her best times in the 500yd. Free, 100yd. Free & 100yd. Breaststroke; Ann had her best times in the 50yd. Free & 50yd. Butterfly; Jessica had her best times in the 50yd. Free & 100yd. Free; and Megan had her best times in the 50yd. Free, 100yd. Free, 100yd. Back and the 50yd. Back.

Watch the Lions' win over No. 1 Ross

New Richmond's varsity wrestling squad handily defeated No. 1 Ross 42-17 last week to lay claim to the No. 1 spot in Greater Cincinnati Div. II.
