Girls Basketball Senior Night Game vs Western Brown

New Richmond Girls Basketball recognized 4-year players prior to the game vs Western Brown last night. Reno Frayne and Brandi Riley have been important parts of the program for 4 years and have meant a lot to the school and the program. Reno Frayne is a 4-year varsity player whose leadership and intensity has been a constant positive for NR girls basketball. On the court she has been a dominant inside force and tremendous defender and rebounder. Brandi Riley in her two years on varsity has been a dependable and tenacious defensive player whose ability to guard 4 positions has made her a key part of our defensive schemes. Both seniors have given 100% effort every time they touch the floor and represent good examples to the underclassmen.

The Senior Night game did not go the way of the lions. Western Brown's full court trap applied more pressure than the offense could handle. In the half-court set WB's total denial of the post-area and double-teams in the post prevented easy baskets. The final score was 44-26 with senior Reno Frayne scoring a game-high 14 points and collecting 13 rebounds. Next @ Goshen Thursday, 2/10. 1st Round Sectional Tournament Game Wed, 2/16 at Withrow HS at 7:30.

Boys Basketball @ Williamsburg

The varsity boys basketball team notched their first win of the season Tuesday night @ Williamsburg. The Lions started off on fire, erupting for a ten point lead just four minutes into the game. Williamsburg fought back and led at halftime 29-27. The lions, however, did not give up and fought for a seven point lead with 2 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. The wildcats got 7 quick points on some well defended shots, but the Lions hit their free throws and executed their plays to ensure the victory. The lions held on the beat the Wildcats by a score of 65-62. The wildcats record falls to 13-3 with the loss. Leading the way for the lions was Nick Hill with 15 points and 5 assists. He also hit two clutch free throws with 4 seconds left to seal the victory. Also leading the way were Joey McCabe 14 points and 12 rebounds, Chris Turner with 12 points and 5 rebounds, and Zak Ritter with 8 points. Shane Campbell and Steven Binder combined for 10 points, but it was their defense that truly helped the lions. Austen Craig hit a clutch 3 late in second quarter to end a tough scoring drought. Everyone contributed to a great win. The lions host Bethel Tate on Friday night.
