Lions edge Batavia 12-11 in 8 innings

The Lions overcame nine errors and 10 strikeouts to edge Batavia 12-11 in 8 innings Monday.

"If you would have told me we would have nine errors and 10 strikeouts, I would have said we would be fortunate to win and we were," said Lions coach Brian Benzinger.

The win improved New Richmond to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the SBAAC. Steven Binder led the Lions with three hits. Dylan Senters, Austin Warden and Zach Ritter each had two hits.

"Of the five cross over games we have (against SBAAC National Division) I felt Batavia had the most potential to beat us," said Benzinger. "We just need to continue to win SBAAC games and keep pace with Northeastern."

The Lions, who lost 4-3 at Northeastern last Friday to drop one game behind the Rockets in the SBAAC American Division, play at East Clnton today, host Williamsburg on Wednesday and Georgetown on Friday in crossover SBAAC games. They will play at Madeira on Thursday and will face Anderson at 10 a.m. Saturday at Midland in the A.J. Cohen Memorial.
