Lion Linksters Fall in Tri-Match

The Lion Linksters played a tough tri-match against visiting Turpin and Milford Monday night and were beaten in a close match. The final score was Turpin 159, Milford 165, and New Richmond 168. Leading the Lions and all golfers in the match was Medalist Chris Mazzaro who shot a blazing two under par 33 on the back nine at Stillmeadows Country Club. Also scoring and playing well for the Lions were Bryce Kroeger (41), Kyle Heidlage (42), Daman Abner (42), Zack Grissom (66), and Laura Wilson (68). The Lions record now stands at 3-3 on the season.

Boys Soccer Defeats Norwood

The boys soccer team defeated league opponent Norwood Monday 3-0. Goals where scored by Colton Farmer and Michael Huber, Will Hayden had the shut out. The boys are right back at it Tuesday with a league game at Goshen.

New Richmond Boys And Girls Cross Country Teams Have Strong Showing At The Wilmington Invitational

The New Richmond cross country teams both had strong showings at the Wilmington Invitational this past Saturday.  The Wilmington Invitational featured more than 30 division I and division II schools from Ohio, and included 351 runners in the boys race and 282 runners in the girls race.  The boys team placed 11th at the invitational.  Top runners for the lions included;

Lion Linksters Break the Broncos

The Lion Linksters continued their solid start to the golf season with a convincing 171-222 win over the visiting Western Brown Bronocos. Playing the back nine at Stillmeadow Country Club Medalist Chris Mazzaro fired a 2 over par 37 to lead the Lions. Also scoring and playing well for the Lions were Bryce Kroeger (41), Kyle Heidlage (41), Daman Abner (52), Zack Grissom (61) and Chase Heflin (62). The Lions are sitting at 3-1 on the season.

Boys Soccer Post First League Win

Boys soccer posted their first league win of the new season Thursday evening against Western Brown with a score of 4-0.  Goals were scored by Noah Chaney, Tyler Klein, Michael Huber and Jake Hayden. Will Hayden had the shut out with 8 saves.
Next up is league opponent Norwood.

All football tickets will be $6

The Executive Board of the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference of which New Richmond is a member has raised ticket prices for Friday night varsity football games.

Adults and students will both pay a $6 ticket price beginning this season.  

"We are sorry for the inconvenience but this is a league decision," said Supt. Adam Bird. "All other game ticket prices will remain unchanged from last year."

‘Go Lions’ has new meaning in Cameroon

When someone yells “Go Lions” in the village of Tugi, Cameroon, Africa, it can be a cause panic.

But this soccer season in Tugi, those words may be coming from the mouth of The Fon, His Royal Highness W.M. Mbakwa, ruler of the village of 3500.

When the Tugi’s Government Technical Secondary School soccer team takes the field they will be wearing uniforms of the New Richmond Lions thanks to New Richmond High School and its French teacher Roger Nyam, a native of Tugi.

 "We wish the donors could really come visit our village so that we can show them our love and appreciation and share a meal and some kola nut with them,” His Royal Highness W.M. Mbakwa said. "The villagers are so proud of their children and the school. They love to fondly refer to the students as young Americans because of their American jerseys."

“Once again, on behalf of the kids of Tugi, I thank New Richmond Schools for the donation,” said Nyam, who makes pilgrimages back to his hometown with (or ships) donated items from New Richmond. “It made a world of difference in the lives of those kids in my hometown. “

Nyam noted that the Fons of other villages envy Tugi.

“They know very well that the state did not provide those jerseys to the school and that they came all the way from the United States,” said Nyam, who will have more soccer jerseys for his 2014 trip to his home town.

“We just bought new varsity jerseys this year and I will have two bags of jerseys for Roger next year (pending school board approval for disposal),” said New Richmond High School athletic director Doug Foote.

"We want to thank Mr. Roger Nyam for not forgetting where he comes from and for knowing what the kids really need back here and ask him to extend our love and appreciation to New Richmond High School and the people of New Richmond," said Mr. Manasse Mbakwa, president of the Tugi Cultural and Development Association, speaking on behalf of the village and schools. “May God bless them. We love you”

Mr. Olivier Mbazogo, the sports teacher at the Tugi secondary school, said he felt excited coaching a team that has sports attire that everyone admires

 "Those jerseys made the students excited about participating in sports,” said Mbazogo.
