The four home baseball games and the softball home game are still on for today. Come check out the new scoreboards on the baseball and softball fields they look great! Thanks Andrew of Griffin Team Sports and crew for putting them up in the pouring rain so we could have them for opening day. The signs that go on them will be up hopefully in the next week or two.

Baseball scrimmages switch days
Baseball scrimmages will change dates this week: Wednesday the JV will be home and the Varsity will be at Glen Este and Thursday the Varsity will be home and the JV will be at Mariemont. Same times.
Herman approved as football coach
The New Richmond Board of Education approved the hiring of Scott Herman as head football coach at its Monday meeting.
Herman, who is originally from Loveland and is now coaching at teaching at Montgomery High School in Texas, replaces Dan Scholz who resigned to accept the head coaching position at Oak Hills High School.

The Board also approved the hiring of Christopher Malotke as the new varsity girls soccer coach.
"I am very excited about both of the new coaches," superintendent Adam Bird told the Board. "Both coaches are coming with good resumes and with what we have been looking for in a coach along with the experience we seeking."
Herman has coached at Montgomery High School for the past six years, the last four as defensive coordinator. Prior to moving to Texas, Herman coached at Little Miami for four years (two as head coach), Colerain for two years and one year at Loveland under Chuck Warden, who will be returning for a sixth year as New Richmond's offensive coordinator.
Herman played four years of college football at the College of Mt. St. Joseph. He had a chance to join Scholz' staff at Oak Hills as defensive coordinator.
He was introduced to the returning football players last week while he was awaiting Board approval.
"I'm excited to be here," Herman told the players. "You guys are going to get everything from me. This is my passion and what I feel like I was born to do."
Herman has four young children and said he wanted to move to a community where he could coach were his kids went to school.
"We're going to create memories," Herman told the players. "You are going to be proud to walk around with your New Richmond gear on. I am, too. I've got me a (New Richmond) shirt and I've got be a hat and I'm ready to go."
Maltke, who was an all-city soccer player at Mariemont High School and a two-year varsity player at Hanover College, comes to New Richmond after serving as as varsity assistant at Bethel-Tate and JV coach at Mt. Notre Dame. He has served as a board member of the NWCCSAY soccer association and is a USSF certified official.

Wrestlers honored at SBAAC
The SBAAC and Div. II sectional champions New Richmond wrestlers and their coach Deron Shinkle walked away with the most trophies at Monday's Southern Buckeye Conference Winter Sports Banquet. Pictured with coach Shinkle are (from left) Brody Hooks, Austin Skaggs, JR Forsee, James White and Kyle Weeks who were honored as first team all-stars. Hooks, Skaggs, Forsee and Cody Gabelman were state qualifiers with Hooks recording a 5th place finish at 113 pounds and Forsee a seventh place finish at 285. White was an alternate to state at 170 pounds.Gabelman was a second-team SBAAC all-star along with Robbie Lemar, Clay Loadman and Nathan Dixon.

Lions arrive at state tournament
New Richmond wrestlers wait for today's 11:30 a.m. weigh ins to begin at the state wrestling tournament in Columbus. New Richmond qualified a school record four wrestlers -- seniors Brody Hooks, Austin Skaggs, Cody Gabelman and junior JR Forsee with junior James White as an alternate-- to state. II.
Hooks won his first round match while Skaggs, Gabelman and Forsee lost their first round matches and dropped to the consolation round. Skaggs and Forsee won their first round consolation matches and still have a chance to finish as high as third place.

Boys Basketball Sectional win V Norwood
The New Richmond Lions boys basketball team won their first round game against Norwood Saturday afternoon by a score of 48-42 in OT. This was the first tournament win for New Richmond since 2004. Leading the way for the Lions were Jake Gundler and Austin Wells with 10 points each. Nick HIll added 9 points, Austen Craig added 8 points, and John Ernst added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Austin Wells iced the game in the overtime hitting 5 clutch free throws to help the Lions pull away. The lions play SBC rival CNE Wednesday night at 6:30 at the Mason Middle School Arena. The winner of this game will be in the sectional finals.
Lions place 5 at district wrestling tournament and finish third!
The Lions took thirteen wrestlers to the Goshen District, aka "The Meat Grinder". Round one Friday night went close to expected with a 9-4 record. Round two proved to be a little more difficult with the Lions going 4-5. Round three finished the evening with a 2-2 record. After the dust settled the Lions still had eleven wrestlers battling for a state tournament berth but a casualty of Friday evening was senior Ryan Zawacki. Ryan lost a hard fought match to end his career as a Lion wrestler.
Saturday morning saw three more seniors strap on their headgear for the last time as a member of the Lions wrestling team. Tyler Loyd, Robbie Lemar and Cory English all lost gut wrenching matches. Young men you will be missed but not forgotten... .
Senior Brody Hooks was a terror all weekend. Brody finished as tournament champion and outscoring his opponents 31-9 with one pin! Brody is the first wrestling district champion from NR in about 30 years, congratulations to Brody and the Hooks family! This will be Brody's second trip to Columbus!
Senior Austin Skaggs won his first two matches and lost a nail bitter 4-2 in the semi-finals. Austin won his final match in convincing fashion 15-7 to finish third and earn his second berth to the state tournament next weekend! Congratulations Austin your hard work and determination has payed off. We look forward to seeing you and the Skaggs family in Columbus.
Senior Cody Gabelman won his first two matches also and then lost a tough decision in the semi-finals. Cody came back to avenge an earlier loss to an SBAAC opponent, winning 9-0. Cody finished the tournament in third place with a dominating performance in the finals. Cody will be making his first trip to the state tournament next weekend. I know the Gabelman family will not miss any of the action next weekend, see you in C-bus!
Junior JR Forsee will be joining our three seniors in Columbus next weekend. JR will be making his second appearance at the state tournament. JR won his first two matches and then had an unfortunate elbow injury that limited his ability to be at his best. JR finished in fourth defaulting two matches. I feel sorry for his first opponent at the state tournament, 285 lbs. of anger festering for a week, going to be ugly! I know the Forsee family already has their bags packed and Hotel booked in Columbus.
Junior James White saw the most action of any Lion wrestler. James wrestled six matches going 4-2 and finished in fifth place. James will be making his first trip to Columbus as an alternate. Watching James wrestles reminds you that all things are possible through hard work and the right attitude. Congratulations to James and the White family, see you at the Schott!
The team finished in third behind Washington Court House and Hillsboro. See you next weekend in Columbus. WE ARE NR!!
