Brody Hooks and Jr Forsee are headed to Columbus Thursday to do battle in the State Wrestling Tournament. Brody finished fourth and JR was the district runner-up. Austin Skaggs finished fifth (state alternate) and James White finished Sixth. By the way, all four are underclassmen and will return next year.
The Lions started a little slow the first round but then turned up the heat the rest of the tournament. JR dominated his way to the finals and lost a tough match in the end! Brody, Austin and James had to wrestle all day Saturday after losing Friday night. Their hard work and dedication paid off in the end, finishing top six.
All eleven district qualifiers wrestled well and left it all on the mat. Jordon Hooks dislocates his knee in the second period, a trainer puts it back in place, Jordon drags his leg to the center circle, finishes the match and beats his opponent. Get better Jordon! Cory English wrestled through a suspected broken hand also, get well Cory!
The Lions finished eighth out of fifty teams! The Lions have also qualified for the State Duals Tournament next year. It is awarded to the top two teams in the district with the highest scoring underclassmen. That makes the Lions ranked in the top eight in the state going into next season!
Next season will be tough moving on without our two seniors. Sam Anderson and James Martin you will be missed! Remember once a Lion wrestler always a Lion wrestler. WE ARE NR!!
