Another Division Win for Lady Lions
The Lady Lions Girls Basketball team won their second consecutive SBAAC-American Division game Saturday Night vs. Goshen 51-46. Limited by foul trouble the girls led only by 3 at half-time and quickly went down by 8 early in the 3rd quarter. Late in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th quarter the girls went on strong run fueled by a clutch 3 from Sarah Shoemaker, a strong drive by Courtney Grogan, two scores off out of bounds plays by Josie Buckingham and several free throws by Reno Frayne. After this strong run the Lions quickly went on top by 10. Inconsistent ball handling and stagnant offensive motion allowed Goshen to keep it close to the end. The Lady lions got outstanding performances from Reno Frayne who scored 13 including 7/10 from the free throw line, Lindsey Blankenship who scored 12 and brought down 14 rebounds, and Josie Buckingham added 10. It was a hard-fought team win which allowed NR to improve to 3-1 in the league and 3-3 overall. Next @ Norwood Monday 12/20.
Lions Basketball vs Bethel Tate
The Lions traveled to take on the defending SBC champs Bethel Tate on Friday night. The lions started off slow, and went down 40-20 at the half. The lions refused to quit and battled back and tied the score at 51-51 with 1 minute left in the game. The lions were able to hold off a last second attempt to win by Bethel and the game went into overtime. Bethel Tate scored on its first two possessions in overtime and went up by four, and the lions were unable to make up that deficit falling by a score of 56-55. It was a great overall effort by the lions, especially on the defensive end where they only gave 11 points in the second half. Zak Ritter had 18 points, Joey McCabe had 14 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals, and Chris Turner had 14 points. Derrick Dillow came off the bench and played some great defense on their starting point guard, giving up 0 points in the second half. The Lions JV lost to Bethel moving their record to 2-4. The Freshman won 52-47 improving their record to 4-1. The JV team went to Batavia on Saturday night and won 42-32 improving their record to 3-4.
