The JV wrestling Lions battle to a fifth place finish out of seventeen teams yesterday. The Lions went 3-1 at the Oak Hills duals, losing only to the champion, Elder.
The Lions started the day with a convincing victory over Glen Este. The Lions had the lead early but couldn't hang on for the victory over Elder, losing a close one! The Lions, angered by the earlier defeat, took it out on Winton Woods with a dominating victory. The Lions finished the day with a pummeling of St Xavier for the fifth place finish. "With a better draw, I believe the team could have finished in the top 3", explained coach Minor.
These young men have been working hard all year and it really showed yesterday against the best competition in the city! They all wrestled very well yesterday and at the end of the day Chris Klinker and James White finished the day undefeated! WE ARE NR!

Another Division Win for Lady Lions
The Lady Lions Girls Basketball team won their second consecutive SBAAC-American Division game Saturday Night vs. Goshen 51-46. Limited by foul trouble the girls led only by 3 at half-time and quickly went down by 8 early in the 3rd quarter. Late in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th quarter the girls went on strong run fueled by a clutch 3 from Sarah Shoemaker, a strong drive by Courtney Grogan, two scores off out of bounds plays by Josie Buckingham and several free throws by Reno Frayne. After this strong run the Lions quickly went on top by 10. Inconsistent ball handling and stagnant offensive motion allowed Goshen to keep it close to the end. The Lady lions got outstanding performances from Reno Frayne who scored 13 including 7/10 from the free throw line, Lindsey Blankenship who scored 12 and brought down 14 rebounds, and Josie Buckingham added 10. It was a hard-fought team win which allowed NR to improve to 3-1 in the league and 3-3 overall. Next @ Norwood Monday 12/20.
Lions Basketball vs Bethel Tate
The Lions traveled to take on the defending SBC champs Bethel Tate on Friday night. The lions started off slow, and went down 40-20 at the half. The lions refused to quit and battled back and tied the score at 51-51 with 1 minute left in the game. The lions were able to hold off a last second attempt to win by Bethel and the game went into overtime. Bethel Tate scored on its first two possessions in overtime and went up by four, and the lions were unable to make up that deficit falling by a score of 56-55. It was a great overall effort by the lions, especially on the defensive end where they only gave 11 points in the second half. Zak Ritter had 18 points, Joey McCabe had 14 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals, and Chris Turner had 14 points. Derrick Dillow came off the bench and played some great defense on their starting point guard, giving up 0 points in the second half. The Lions JV lost to Bethel moving their record to 2-4. The Freshman won 52-47 improving their record to 4-1. The JV team went to Batavia on Saturday night and won 42-32 improving their record to 3-4.

The Lions skip school to attack the Trojans!
In a rare in-school dual the Lions wrestled Glen Este @ 1pm Friday. The Lions knew the battle was going to be fierce. GE is ranked in the top ten D1 wrestling teams this year.
The wrestling started @ 112 lbs with a GE win over N. Rostetter, then is was Skagzy's turn to show them what Lion wrestling is all about, handing the GE wrestler a loss! Anderson and Loyd kept it close but just fell a little short. Muse gave it his all but was a little over matched, Lemar was victorious in typical Lion fashion! Zawacki, Hoskins, Martin and Dixon battled tough but lost in the end. English was the shinning star of the day pinning his opponent early. Reid won a close one in the end! JR lost a triple overtime match that reminded me of Lions battling Trojans in the Roman Coliseum. Finally J. Hooks lost a close one. Final score GE 48 Lions 15. The Lions are at the Coaches Classic next Saturday and Sunday, WE ARE NR!

The JV Wrestling Lions open the season at Wilmington.
The first tournament of the year was a huge success. The Lions placed 10 wrestlers out of 14 weight classes. They did not keep a team score but we know the results if they would have, Lions win! Brody Hooks placed first, Tyler Loyd, Mickey McCollum, Chris Klinker and Aaron Pollard finished second, Tristan Williams and Clay Loadman finished third, AJ Rostetter and Zack Fields finished fourth and Ryle Beckerich finished fifth. Coach Minor was impressed with the Lions performance for the first meet of the year. He explained they have a long way to go but this was an impressive beginning to the 2010-2011 season! WE ARE NR!
The Wrestling Lions takedown the first meet of the year!
The Lions attacked the Roger Bacon duals Saturday morning. They posted a 72-6 win over Roger Bacon in the first round. The second round saw the Lions dominate the Mariemont Warriors. Then came the Norwood Indians who were no match for the Mighty Lions. The fourth round was a battle for the ages. The Lions faced the Reading Blue Devils, both teams unbeaten and hungry for a trip to the finals. The Lions started off hot with two wins in quick fashion, then Reading won the next four followed by a few impressive wins by the Lions. When the dust settled the Lions fell a little short losing 39-23. The final round of the day was for third place with the Lions squaring off against the Wyoming Cowboys. Those Cowboys felt the wrath of a Lion team coming off their first loss of the season, Lions 62 Cowboys 9. enough said!
Austin Skaggs, Cody Gableman, Ryan Zawacki and JR Forsee all went undefeated, posting a 5-0 record. Nathan Rostetter, Sam Anderson, Robbie Lemar and Kevin Reid went an impressive 4-1. WE ARE NR!

Lady Lions Fade vs CNE
The Lady Lions Girls Basketball team took a tough loss vs CNE last night. After a 1 point half-time lead the girls faded down the stretch losing the 2nd half 21-13. The girls were not able to stop the strong inside game of CNE and failed to stop their quick transition game. Foul trouble, poor offensive decision-making and execution, and low intensity also contributed to the loss. The girls play next at Home vs Milford Tuesday Dec 7.

NRHS Athletic Handbook available online
The New Richmond Board of Education has approved the Athletic Department Handbook for New Richmond High School. All NRHS student-athletes and their parents/guardians are encouraged to read the handbook which can be accessed at the link below or at nrlions.com.
Click here to view NRHS Athletic Handbook
From Doug Foote, NRHS Athletic Director and Dean of Students:
"This handbook is presented to you because your son/daughter has indicated a desire to participate in interscholastic athletics, and you have expressed your willingness to permit him/her to compete. The New Richmond High School Athletic Department believes that a dynamic program of student activities is vital to the educational development of the student. Its Athletic Program will provide a variety of experiences to aid in the development of favorable habits and attitudes in students that will prepare them for adult life.
The New Richmond School District is very proud of the wide variety of opportunities for athletic participation. These opportunities are believed to be a critical part of a student’s total development as they assist in the building of positive character and leadership traits.
Young people learn a great deal from their participation in interscholastic athletics. Lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition and how to win and lose gracefully are integral parts of each team in our athletic program.
Likewise it is felt that you have committed yourself to certain responsibilities and obligations. It is the athletic department’s intent through this handbook to acquaint you with policies that are necessary for an organized program of athletics. This handbook originated for prospective athletes and their parents/guardians to become familiar with the Interscholastic Athletic Code of Conduct and the policies of the New Richmond High School Athletic Department.
These rules need broad-based community support to be fully effective. This is only achieved through communication amongst all parties involved. It is our hope that this handbook serves as a means to accomplishing this objective

Boys Soccer Season Comes To An End
The boys traveled to McNicholas High School for the second round of tournament play. It became clear early in the match why McNicholas was the tournament number 1 seed, with their individual technique and team tactics. The Lions played hard the entire game, but were just over matched. Their season recorded is 7-8-3. The seniors will be missed and were a big part of the teams success. The future for New Richmond soccer looks bright with a strong underclass and a strong desire to win.

girls varsity soccer team's end to the season
The girls varsity soccer team traveled to Fairfield High School Wednesday to play in the 1st round of the Division II District Tournament. The team matched up, for the 3rd year in a row, against Cincinnati Christian. Although the Lady Lions were able to defeat CCS the first two years, they were unable to claim victory this time around. The teams battled with a 0-0 tie throughout the entire game. A sudden death, 15 min game was then played, with the first team to score, to be the winner of the game. Cincinnati Christian earned a corner kick with 3 minutes to go in the sudden death match and scored, giving them the overall win of 1-0. The team's overall record for the year was 5-9-2.

FRESHMAN/JV VOLLEYBALL
The Freshmen and JV Volleyball teams lost to Western Brown on Tuesday 10/12/10. They traveled to Goshen last night and lost to Goshen in 2 games. This is the first year to have a freshman team, though we faced many challenges on playing time for so many; I am thankful for such a great group of girls that have worked so hard to improve their skills to make the volleyball program a success.

Boys soccer loses to Amelia
The score after the first half was 1-0 Amelia with the goal being scored on a questionable no call on off-sides. While maintaining good team shape and defensive pressure, it was obvious the Barons were getting frustrated. Sam Anderson scored the Lions only goal on a near post shot that found the upper 90 open. The boys played hard and were very much in the game through most of the second half. Amelia speed and quick ball movement proved to be too much giving them the victory. Our final regular season game will be played Thursday versus Bethel at New Richmond. We will open tournament play Monday Oct. 18th at CNE
