The board of Southern Buckeye Academic and Athletic Conference voted Wednesday to accept Norwood as a member beginning with the 2012-13 season. Norwood currently is a member of the Ft. Ancient Valley Conference.
The announcement was made by SBAAC commissioner Pat Hill who said Norwood will become a member of the SBAAC’s American Division which also will include Amelia, New Richmond, Goshen and Western Brown in all sports. Bethel will play in the American Division in all sports except football. Bethel will drop down to the smaller National Division in football.
The National Division currently includes Clermont Northeastern, Williamsburg, Batavia, Blanchester, Georgetown, Felicity and East Clinton. Georgetown and Felicity do not play football and East Clinton is leaving the league after the 2011-12 season to become a member of the South Central Ohio League.
Northeastern, which has been a member of the American Division in all sports except football, will move to the National Division in all sports with the addition of Norwood.
The move by Norwood comes a day after Anderson, Turpin, Kings, Glen Este, Milford, Loveland and Walnut Hills announced they were leaving the FAVC to form a yet unnamed conference.
