VARSITY BASEBALL WINS FIRST ROUND IN SECTIONAL, REACHES 20 WIN MARK

The Lions Varsity Baseball Team opened up post-season play with an 11-0 win over Hughes on Tuesday, 5/8. Solid pitching from Ryan Waters, AJ Solis, and Levi Simpson resulted in a combined no-hitter and a shutout. The offense was led by Cole Bird with two hits, including a triple, and Austin Skaggs with 2 RBI's. The # 1 seeded and 20-4 Lions will host # 3 seeded Bethel on Thursday, 5/10 at 5:00 in the 2nd round in hopes of reaching the sectional finals for the 2nd straight year. The win against Hughes put the 2012 edition of Lions Baseball in an elite class of Lions Baseball History. Since 1965, only eight NR Lions teams had won 20 or more games in a season. They were the 1985(21 wins) and 1991(20 wins) teams guided by Jim Robinson, and the teams from 1999(20 wins), 2001(20 wins), 2002(21 wins), 2003(23 wins), 2004(23 wins), and 2005(23 wins).
