JV LADY LIONS SOFTBALL ENDS ON A GREAT NOTE

Congratulations to the JV Lady Lions Softball team on ending their season with another victory against Loveland 14-5.  Great defense was played by our fill-in catcher, Lacy Darnell in the absence of Kaylee Chapman. Tremendous defense was also implemented by our 2nd baseman Haylie Clemons, first baseman Ashley Willis, shortstop Shelby Koehler, third baseman Hannah Calvert, left fielder Kendal Collier/Alyssa Allen, right fielder Alexis Blackburn/Tiffany Britnell, center fielder Kacie Colwell and pitcher Adrianna Flood.  Hitters of the game were Adrianna Flood with a triple and single, Ashley Willis with two hard hit singles, Kacie Colwell with two hard hit singles, Kendal Collier with two line drive singles and Haylie Clemons with four singles. The JV Softball team ended their season with a 16-5 record.

The JV Lady Lions will close their wining season tomorrow. They fought against Goshen this past week securing a victory in the 7th inning 7-6, won against Leesburg 16-6, beat Amelia 17-6, CNE 10-2, Mariemont 10-3 and this past Saturday Anderson 14-1.  Our pitcher Adrianna Flood pitched 5 strike outs, hit one home run and a triple getting 4 rbi. Hitters of the Anderson game were Kaylee Chapman, Ashley Willis, Alyssa Allen, Shelby Koehler, and Katie Broshears.  The Lady Lions record now stands at 15-5.

Congratulations to the JV Lady Lions Softball team on another win to their record last night against Goshen 14-0.  Adrianna Flood after being injured in the game twice still pitched 9 strike outs and hit a double. Mickaelah Wilson hit a triple and had 3 rbi.  A great job was done by all. The JV Lady Lions are now 7-1.

Congratulations to the JV Lady Lions on their tough victory against Blanchester Friday 12-10. Mickaelah Wilson hit a double bringing in the two winning runs to finish the game.  The Lady Lions came back on Saturday and pulled another victory against Reading 5-2.  Their record is now 6-1.

The JV Lady Lions Softball team started their season on Saturday 3/28 with a victory against Hilltop 3-2 and continuing their victories against Batavia 21-1 and Amelia 11-5.

Lions Hall of Fame accepting nominations

The New Richmond Lions Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for induction into the 2015 Hall of Fame Class. Nominations must be received by the New Richmond High School Athletic Department by December 8, 2014 to be considered for the 2015 Hall of Fame inductions to be held at 6 p.m. January 31, 2015.

NOMINATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY

FORWARD:        The performances of the past serve as an inspiration for present and future activities. Yet, unless the achievements are recorded, they tend to become hazy memories. It is for this reason that we set forth the following purpose for the Lions Sports Hall of Fame.

PURPOSE:           To recognize outstanding contributions to the athletic program at New Richmond High School by athletes, coaches, athletic directors and administrators and therefore offer incentive to future participants in this program.

A.    Anyone wishing to make one or several nominations may obtain nomination forms in the Athletic Director’s Office.

1.     Nominators must sign nomination forms or they will be invalid.

2.     Nominations must be submitted by December 8th. The committee will meet in December to select inductees.

3.     The induction ceremony will take place during the basketball season on January 31^st at 6:00.

B.    Any past athlete, coach, athletic director, or administrator is eligible for induction into the Lions Sports Hall of Fame with these exceptions:

1.     An athlete must have earned a Varsity letter while attending New Richmond. Athletes cannot be considered within the first five years after his/her graduation date.

2.     A coach, athletic director, or administrator is eligible immediately after retiring or upon leaving the district.

3.     A present coach, athletic director, or administrator is eligible for his/her performance as an athlete at New Richmond.

4.     Outstanding athletic achievement and contribution to athletics is the primary requirement for nomination.

C.    Number of Inductees – There will be at least one, but not more than 4 inductees in a given year.

D.    Nominations will be kept in consideration for 3 years.

JV VOLLEYBALL SEASON ENDS 17-3

The JV Volleyball Team ended their season with another victory against Goshen last night 25-15 and 25-10; ending their record at 17-3. They won a game and lost a game to Western Brown and Amelia. They also fell  to Williamsburg one game. The Lady Lions had a great season.

The JV Volleyball team had a hard fought battle Tuesday night against Western Brown. Losing the first game 20-25 they fought back taking the second 25-16 and the third 25-23. The team put forth tremendous effort securing this victory.  Their record now stands at 16-3.

Congratulations to the JV Volleyball team on their win against CNE & Batavia this past week. The Lady Lions fought a hard fight against Amelia last night but was defeated in 3 games 22-25, 25-19 and in overtime lost the battle 26-24. The team's record is now 14-3.

Volley for the Cure Victory

Congratulations to the Varsity volleyball team on their victory over Georgetown in tonight's Volley for the Cure game 25-13, 25-12, 25-16.  Anna Hamilton was the team's leading server with 7 aces.  Kandice, one shoe, Miller lead the defense with 2 blocks and 15 digs.  She was followed by Anna Hamilton and Cortney Smith with 13 digs each. On offense, the leaders were Emily Carter, Kandice Miller, and Rachael Riffle with 8 kills each.

The JV Volleyball team is now 10-1, beating Norwood two out of three games, being defeated by Western Brown 19-25 but then coming back and beating Goshen 25-11 and 25-8. A great job is being done by all.

Congratulations to the JV Volleyball Team on seven straight victories.  The Lady Lions have started out their season defeating CNE, Ripley, MVCA, Mariemont, Clark, Reading and the first of league games Batavia last night 25-20 in both games.

Varsity Volleyball wins league opener!

The varsity volleyball team improved their record to 6-2 with a win over Batavia taking them to 1-0 in the league.  The entire match was a battle with scores of 26-24, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-23.  Rachael Riffle lead the offense with 10 kills, assisting her and the other hitters was Emily Carter with 16 assists.  Cortney Smith and Sadie Fischesser each had 3 aces.  Kandice Miller and Anna Hamilton worked to shut down Batavia's front row as they had 9 blocks and 5 blocks, respectively.  The team had a combined total of 118 digs, leading in that category was Kandice Miller with 24 and Cortney Smith with 20.  The team takes on Amelia at home on Thursday in another league match.

Varsity Volleyball team defeats Reading

The varsity volleyball team played a great match tonight and defeated Reading 25-23, 25-16, 25-23.  Rachael Riffle had 18 assists to help the offensive leaders of Kandice Miller with 9 kills and Anna Hamilton with 8.  Natalie Holdsworth and Rachael Riffle helped in the scoring with 3 aces each.  Emily Kidd and Kandice Miller each had 11 digs, followed by Cortney Smith with 10.  Everyone contributed to a great team victory!

Congratulations to the JV Volleyball Team on their victory against CNE Saturday 8/16. The Lady Lions won two out of three games; 26-24, 17-25, 25-21. Then following up with another victory against Ripley also Saturday; 25-7 and 25-17.

The JV Volleyball team has started off their season winning all four scrimmages against Eastern Brown, Summit Country Day, Purcel Marian and Madeira. Saturday 8/16/14 will start off the season with a tri-match against CNE and Ripley.

NRHS AD Doug Foote elected OHSAA SW District board

New Richmond High School athletic director/dean of students Doug Foote has been elected to a six-year term on the Ohio High School Athletic Association's Southwest District Board. Mr. Foote received 33 votes to 12 for Benjamin Logan AD Scott Reule and 9 for Bishop Fenwick AD Jon Payne.

The 9-member SW District Board is one of five Ohio High School Athletic Association district boards and oversees and runs sectional and district competition in 20 OHSAA sectional and district tournaments.

Mr. Foote's election gives the Southern Buckeye Conference two spots on the SW District Board. Western Brown AD/Asst. Principal Tim Cook serves as SWDAB president and representative to the OHSAA state board.

Brian Benzinger records 300th career win

Senior catcher Levi Simpson hands New Richmond coach Brian Benzinger the game ball for his 300th win after their 7-0 victory over Norwood. The win improved New Richmond to 23-5 and marked the third straight year the Lions have won at least 23 games and the 10^th 20-win season for coach Benzinger in his 15 seasons as head coach.

Spring sports banquet moved to May 28

New Richmond High School's Spring Sports Banquet has been moved from May 16 to May 28. The banquet honoring 2014 spring athletes will be at 6 p.m. May 28 in the NRHS cafeteria followed by athlete recognition in the NRHS gym.
